study in Dubai

Where most international branch campuses are — a British or Australian degree, awarded by the parent university, two and a half hours from Kathmandu.

Dubai concentrates the UAE's international education in two academic free zones, Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Park, where foreign universities operate licensed branch campuses. For a Nepali student who wants a UK degree without a UK visa, this is the specific thing Dubai offers.

It is also the region's business centre, which matters for internships during study and for the job market afterwards — finance, logistics, technology, hospitality and real estate all hire here at scale.

The honest constraints are cost and cost. Tuition tracks the parent university's international fee, and Dubai is among the more expensive places to live in the region. Neither is offset by student work rights, which are permission-based everywhere in the UAE.

03what it costs here

Dubai sits at the top of the UAE's cost range on both tuition and living. The strongest single saving available to a Dubai student is to live in Sharjah, which is adjacent and materially cheaper — a genuinely common arrangement rather than a theoretical one.

Against the other cities we cover in the UAE, Dubai is one of the more expensive. That is our reading of this country’s own spread, not a published index.

Branch-campus tuition in the UAE runs roughly AED 40,000–100,000 a year — set by the institution, not by the emirate.

We do not publish a rent figure for Dubai. No government publishes one city by city, and the numbers that circulate come from consultancy blogs that cannot be checked. Your university publishes its own cost-of-living estimate for its campus — that is the number to plan with.

04living here

The practical texture of the place — what a week actually looks like.

Climate

Extremely hot and humid from roughly May to September, with pleasant winters. Life moves indoors for a large part of the year.

Getting around

A metro along the main spine plus buses and taxis. The city is built around driving, and campuses in the academic free zones are not central.

Housing

University residences where available; the private market is expensive. Sharing, and living in Sharjah, are both common student strategies.

Working

Permission-based, as everywhere in the UAE — on-campus roles and internships, with institutional approval. Not a budget line.

Language

English is the working language of the city as well as the campus. Arabic is useful and not necessary.

Community

A very large South Asian population including an established Nepali community, which makes arrival easier than almost anywhere else in this guide.

05why the city matters
the one lever with real money attached

Living costs across the UAE run roughly AED 2,000–4,000 a month — and Dubai sits at the top of that range while Sharjah, next door, sits at the bottom.

And what moving between them does not change: the student residence visa is federal and sponsored by your institution — it is identical in every emirate

This is the practical arbitrage available in the UAE and nowhere else in this guide: the Emirates are close enough that where you sleep and where you study need not be the same place. Weigh it against the commute, which is real and can be long in traffic. What it cannot do is change your immigration position — the visa is federal and your institution sponsors it wherever you live.
