Abu Dhabi's universities are not primarily branch campuses. Khalifa University is a UAE research institution with genuine standing in engineering and science, and NYU Abu Dhabi is a full liberal-arts campus of New York University with famously selective admissions and substantial financial aid.
As the federal capital it is where government, sovereign investment and the energy sector sit, which shapes both internships and graduate hiring toward engineering, energy, policy and finance.
Costs are comparable with Dubai. The city is quieter, more spread out and less relentlessly under construction, which some students strongly prefer and others find slow after Dubai.

Abu Dhabi's real advantage is institutional rather than municipal. Its selective universities run genuine scholarship and financial-aid programmes, and for a strong applicant those are worth more than any cost difference between Emirates. Apply on that basis — and confirm the licence and accreditation of whatever institution you choose, because that, not the emirate, determines whether it can sponsor you.
