Dubai and Sharjah are adjacent; Abu Dhabi is a ninety-minute drive. That proximity turns cost into something you can actually act on, because living in a cheaper emirate than the one you study in is genuinely practical.
What does not change is the immigration position. The student residence visa is federal, it is sponsored by your institution, and it is identical whether you study in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah. Regulator differences between the Emirates are real for the institutions and irrelevant to your status.

Cost, substantially
Sharjah is meaningfully cheaper to live in than Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and it is next door to Dubai. This is the one lever with real money attached.
Which universities exist where
Dubai holds most international branch campuses. Abu Dhabi holds the largest federal and elite institutions. Sharjah has a dedicated university city.
The visa: not at all
Federal, institution-sponsored, identical everywhere. Anyone presenting an emirate as easier for immigration is describing something that does not exist.
Work rights: not at all
Permission-based in every emirate, approved by the institution that sponsors you.
