Lithuania runs a two-stage route: a national Type D visa covering roughly your first year, then a temporary residence permit for the rest of the degree. Both files are documentary — admission to a recognised institution, proof of funds, health insurance arranged before the visa is issued, accommodation, and legalised academic documents.
Neither contains a statement of purpose, a motivation letter or an essay, and there is no credibility interview. The Type D decision commonly follows in about fifteen calendar days, which tells you how much assessment of your intentions is happening.
So the writing is for admissions. And two other questions deserve much more of your effort than the letter does: where you actually lodge the visa, and what your term-time work cap really is — because our sources genuinely disagree about the second, and the first is the difference between a bus fare and a return flight.
Who reads it: an admissions tutor at the university. No immigration officer will ever see it, so this is not the place to argue that you will go home.

Where a Lithuanian institution asks for a motivation letter, it reads like any European admissions document. Results, projects, relevant work — described so they could not appear in another applicant's letter.
A funding picture that holds up
Your work rights do not begin until the residence permit exists. A letter implying you will fund yourself from arrival describes a country that does not exist.
What follows the degree
The job-search permit is real and so is the small market. Saying you intend to use it, or to return to Nepal, are both credible; vagueness is not.

For medicine, check the NMC list first
The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences teaches medicine in English and its degree is EU-recognised — but practising in Nepal runs through the Nepal Medical Council. Confirm the recognised list before applying.
Email your university about the visa channel
Lithuania has no embassy in Nepal. Ask whether Nepali applicants lodge in Kathmandu through a designated centre or travel to New Delhi. This changes your budget more than anything you will write.
Email about the work cap too
Full-time or twenty hours a week — sources say both. Get the current position in writing before you plan a budget that depends on it.
Then write the letter, if one is asked for
Open with the programme and the university, give two or three pieces of real evidence, say why Lithuania specifically, and close with what follows.
Start legalisation alongside everything
Nepal has no apostille, so documents need the full chain. It does not depend on your offer and it is the longest item in the process.
Arrange insurance before the visa, not after
It is a precondition of issue rather than an arrival task — the same ordering trap Czechia sets.
Keep the letter short. In a country where the visa decision takes fifteen days and no official reads your prose, a page is enough — and the hours saved are better spent on the two questions above.

Two and a half million people. Vilnius's technology sector hires internationally; most of the rest wants Lithuanian.
The proportion for Lithuania is unusually favourable, and worth using well. The visa is cheap, quick and documentary; the tuition is among the lowest in the EU; and no official will read a word you write. Send two emails, start the legalisation chain, and spend an evening on the letter. That allocation reflects how this destination actually works.
