One page, start to finish. Two things drive this timeline and neither is the visa: attestation at the front, and a two-to-three-month processing wait in the middle.
Work backwards from your intake, then add the Migration Department's processing time, then add attestation ahead of that. Applicants who start three months out do not make September.
Establish which Cyprus you are looking at
Republic of Cyprus, in the EU, on the accreditation register — confirmed in writing by the institution and checked by you. Nothing else on this timeline matters if this is wrong.
Shortlist, and begin attestation
Do not wait for an offer. Attestation of Nepali academic documents is the longest item in this entire process and it does not depend on admission.
IELTS, or ask about a medium-of-instruction letter
Several private universities accept an MOI letter instead of a test. Ask before booking an exam you may not need.
Apply, and gather the rest of the package
Medical reports and police clearance belong to the migration file, not to arrival. Both take time in Nepal.
Accept, MoEST NOC, remit fees
Keep the payment receipt. You need it for the migration file and again for your residence permit in Cyprus.
The university files; you wait
Two to three months at the Migration Department. There is little you can do to speed this up, which is why the earlier steps matter so much.
Blue Slip arrives — arrange housing and the arrival cash
A rental agreement makes your first week far easier, and the arrival funds are a separate line from your tuition remittance.
Airport checks
Passport, Blue Slip, acceptance letter and evidence of arrival funds. Have them in hand luggage, not in a suitcase.
Register the residence permit
At the local Migration Office, with your passport, Blue Slip, insurance, rental agreement and tuition receipt. The hardest deadline in the sequence.
Work becomes possible
Twenty hours a week in listed sectors, on a contract certified by the Department of Labour. Not before.
Two items here are specific to Cyprus and both catch people out.
Housing and arrival funds. You need a rental agreement to register your residence permit within about a week of landing, and cash evidence at the border on the day you arrive.
Everything else is ordinary preparation:
Accommodation
You need a rental agreement to register your residence permit, and you have about a week to do it. Arranging housing from Nepal is worth the effort.
Health insurance
Required for the migration file and again at registration. Carry the certificate.
Arrival funds
Separate from your tuition transfer, in your own possession on the day. Check declaration thresholds at both ends before carrying cash.
Copies and scans
Blue Slip, acceptance letter, payment receipt, attested certificates. Keep a set reachable without your laptop.
The order is dictated by the registration deadline, which is short.
The sequence: register the residence permit within roughly a week to ten days, then open a bank account, then a phone and the rest of ordinary life
Registering the residence permit comes first because the window is measured in days, not weeks. Everything else — the bank account, the phone, settling into classes — can wait a fortnight. That cannot.
If your accommodation is not settled and you have no rental agreement, tell your institution's international office immediately rather than letting the deadline pass. They deal with this every intake.
Student work in Cyprus generally begins only after six months of residence, is capped at twenty hours a week in term, is restricted to listed sectors, and needs a contract certified by the Department of Labour.
Cyprus does give students real work rights, and twenty hours a week in term with full-time holidays is a genuine allowance. But it starts late, it is restricted to listed sectors, and the contract has to be certified — so it supplements a funded plan rather than creating one.
Budget your first six months as though no work exists, because for most of that period it does not. That is the single most useful piece of financial planning advice on this page.
