costs & funding

The only page in this guide where part-time work is a real line in the budget rather than a warning — because Poland places no hour cap on full-time students.

01what it costs

Poland sits at the affordable end of the EU on both tuition and living, and the two categories of institution are closer together than in most systems.

Public universitiesroughly €2,000–6,000 a year

Private universitiesroughly €2,500–6,000 a year
sector estimate · checked 2026-06 · partial — private universities, which are often English-rich and flexible but vary in quality · ⚠ volatile — verify against the institution's own published fees
Living costsroughly €500–900 a month
sector estimate · checked 2026-06 · partial — shown annualised on the bar above; Warsaw and Kraków at the top, other cities well below · ⚠ volatile — no official student cost-of-living figure is published — orientation only
EUR per year · 0 to 12,000

Living costs above are the monthly range annualised, to put them on one axis with tuition. They are not a published annual figure. Medicine sits well above both tuition bars.

Note the shape: living costs exceed tuition, which is the reverse of the UAE or the UK. That matters here more than elsewhere, because living costs are exactly the part that uncapped work rights can offset.

The city gap is large. Warsaw and Kraków sit at the top of the living range; Wrocław, Poznań, Gdańsk and Łódź sit well below — and those cheaper cities also process residence cards faster.

02the money you actually can count on

This section exists on every country page in this guide. Poland's is the only one that is good news.

Full-time students in Poland currently face no work-hour restriction and need no separate work permit — a valid visa or residence card is the permission.

EU Immigration Portal / sector, corroborated · checked 2026-06 · partial · EU Immigration Portal ↗ · ⚠ volatile — liberalised relatively recently and older sources still describe a 20-hour cap — confirm the current rule

Set against the alternatives, this is a genuine structural advantage. Australia permits 48 hours a fortnight; the UK 20 hours a week in term; Cyprus 20 hours but only after six months and in listed sectors; Malta 20 hours behind an employment licence. Poland places no cap on full-time students at all.

What that translates to: a genuine contribution to living costs rather than a token supplement — the only destination in this guide where that is true without conditions

The condition attached: your academic progress gates the renewal of your residence permit, so work that damages your grades has a delayed but real cost

sector, corroborated · checked 2026-06 · partial

Two honest qualifications. Your grades gate the renewal of your residence permit, so working at the expense of your studies has a delayed but real consequence. And the jobs realistically open to a non-Polish speaker are narrower than the entitlement suggests — which is a strong practical argument for learning the language.

03what you must show

Poland's requirement has three parts, and most summaries collapse them into one number.

funds exceeding a monthly maintenance baseline for the length of your stay, plus money for return travel, plus evidence that tuition has been paid — three separate elements.

Alongside that, a round figure of about PLN 8,000 in accessible funds circulates widely as the practical target. It is broadly consistent with the baseline for a year and is a reasonable thing to aim at — but it is not the published rule, and a consulate can expect more than the statutory minimum.

The form the evidence takes: bank statements in your own or a sponsor's name, a notarised sponsor statement where relevant, a scholarship letter if you have one, and the tuition payment receipt

The third element is the one people forget: evidence that tuition has been paid. In Poland that is not a formality after the visa — it is part of the file, which is why the money moves first.

04scholarships

More modest than Hungary's, but real.

The national agency: NAWA, the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, runs scholarship programmes for international students

At institution level: merit awards and tuition discounts offered by many public and private universities to international students

sector · checked 2026-06 · partial

The honest comparison: if a fully funded degree is what you need, Hungary's Stipendium Hungaricum is the stronger bet in this tier and its cycle runs earlier. Poland's advantage is different — it lets you fund a substantial part of your own costs through work, which no scholarship-dependent plan can guarantee.

05moving the money from Nepal
Nepal step — the MoEST NOC comes first — and in Poland tuition is normally paid before the visa is applied for

That ordering is unusual and it carries real risk. A year's tuition leaves Nepal before you know whether the visa will be granted, because the payment receipt is part of the application. Ask your university in writing what happens to that money if the visa is refused, and keep the answer.

The Nepal-side ceiling: an education remittance ceiling of about USD 25,000 under the Nepal Rastra Bank Unified Circular

Nepal Rastra Bank · checked 2026-06 · partial · NRB ↗ · ⚠ volatile — the Unified Circular is revised — check the live version, not a copy

Poland's low fees mean the remittance ceiling is unlikely to bind here — unlike a UAE branch campus or Hungarian medicine, an ordinary Polish degree sits comfortably inside it.
