how to apply from Nepal

Applications go directly to each institution, with an early December deadline — and one Norwegian-specific entry requirement worth checking before you plan anything else.

01the timeline

Norway's international deadline is early — often around 1 December for the following autumn. That is well ahead of most of Europe, and it catches applicants who assume a January cycle.

02the GSU requirement

Norway's equivalent of the qualification-mapping question that shapes Germany for Nepali applicants — and it is worth checking first, not last.

What it is: the Higher Education Entrance Qualification — the standard your prior education must meet for admission

Check how your NEB +2 or bachelor's maps against the GSU list before shortlisting programmes. As in Germany, a school-leaving qualification that does not map directly may require additional study — and that changes the length and cost of the whole plan.

ask before you apply, not after

Norway introduced tuition in autumn 2023 and is expected to remove the cost-covering requirement from 1 August 2026, pending parliamentary approval. Applications close well before that takes effect.

study in Norway + sector reporting · checked 2026-06 · partial · ⚠ highly volatile — ask your institution what applies to your cohort

Because Norway's December deadline falls well before an August 2026 change would take effect, you may be applying under one regime for an intake that starts under another. Ask the institution directly what will apply to your cohort — the difference is potentially over a million rupees a year.

A single national academic threshold: the GSU standard applies instead

NOKUT / study in Norway · checked 2026-06 · partial — no single percentage threshold — check how your qualification maps against GSU

Norwegian institutions publish requirements clearly, and the GSU framework makes qualification mapping unusually transparent — you can generally find out where you stand before applying rather than after.

Norway's financial requirement is the largest single sum in this guide, so plan the remittance carefully against NRB limits — and start the NOC as soon as your admission letter arrives.
