how to apply from Nepal

Undergraduate through UCAS, postgraduate direct to each university — and no agent required at any step. Here's the timeline, the English routes, and the Nepal-specific steps.

01the timeline

The main intake is September/October, with a substantial January/February secondary intake — which is genuinely useful if you miss the first. Work backwards from your target.

12–8 months out

Shortlist compliant sponsors

Only licensed sponsors can issue a CAS. A sponsor's compliance rating also affects how your visa is assessed — this is a real risk factor you control by choosing well.

10–8 months out

Settle your English route

Either sit a UKVI-approved SELT, or confirm in writing that your university accepts Grade-12 English or an MOI letter.

8–6 months out

Apply

Undergraduate via UCAS; postgraduate directly to each university. Multiple applications are normal.

6–4 months out

Meet conditions, pay the deposit

Conditional offers become unconditional once you satisfy them. The deposit is usually what unlocks the next step.

after conditions

Receive your CAS

The Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies states your course, fees and any deposit paid. The visa is built around it.

~3 months out

Start the 28-day clock

The full required amount must sit in the account for 28 consecutive days. Start early — this is the most common refusal cause.

~3 months out

MoEST NOC, then the TB test

The NOC comes after your offer and before remitting fees. The TB test must be done at a UK-approved Kathmandu clinic before you lodge.

2–3 months out

Lodge online, give biometrics

Apply on the UKVI site, pay the fee and IHS, then attend the visa application centre.

Give yourself 8–12 months from first research to departure.

Undergraduate: through UCAS

Postgraduate: directly to each university

Both routes are open to you directly from Nepal. Agents are optional and add nothing you cannot do yourself — what they sometimes add is a filtered shortlist, which is exactly the thing worth being sceptical about when their income depends on which university you choose.

03english: two routes

The UK gives Nepali applicants a genuine choice here, which most destinations do not.

The visa standard: CEFR B2 via a UKVI-approved SELT

ukvi-referencing · checked 2026-06 · verified — roughly IELTS 5.5–6.5 depending on component minima

University admission typically sets its own bar around IELTS 6.0–7.0

aggregated university data · checked 2026-06 · partial — depends on course — verify per programme

The MOI route: Grade-12 English at roughly 60%+, or an MOI letter, accepted by many licensed sponsors in place of a SELT

house of admissions / niec · checked 2026-06 · partial — institution-specific — confirm in writing

The MOI route is legitimate and widely used, not a shortcut of doubtful standing — licensed sponsors are permitted to assess English themselves. But it is institution-specific, so get confirmation in writing from the university before you skip booking a test.

04entry requirements

A single national academic threshold for UK entry: does not exist

set per programme · checked 2026-06 · partial — no national threshold — verify on each course page

GRE and GMAT are generally not required — occasional exceptions at competitive MBA and finance programmes.

Read offer conditions carefully against UK grading, which is not calibrated like Nepal's. A condition expressed as a UK percentage may be a much higher bar than the same number implies at home.

06from Nepal

Two Nepal-specific steps sit between your CAS and your visa, and both have to happen in order.

Nepal step — get the MoEST NOC before remitting any tuition

Then the TB test, at a UK-approved clinic in Kathmandu, before you lodge the visa. Neither can be done retrospectively, and both are routine if you plan for them.
