how to apply from Nepal
Decide the language question first. It changes your cost by everything, your timeline by about a year, and very little else.
This is the decision that shapes the whole application, and it is a genuine choice rather than a formality.
Route A — study in Czech
Tuition-free at public universities. Requires reaching a level where you can study a degree in Czech, which in practice means a year of preparatory language study first, paid for separately.
Route B — study in English
Roughly €2,000–10,000 a year, or far more for medicine. No language year, admission on the same basis as any international applicant, and over a thousand programmes to choose from.
Be realistic about Route A. Czech is a Slavic language with seven cases and no relationship to English or Nepali; reaching degree level in a year is demanding and the preparatory course itself is not free. The route is real and people do it — but it is a serious commitment, not a loophole.
It also has a payoff beyond tuition. A graduate who studied in Czech is employable across the whole Czech market rather than only in Prague's international sector, and Czech is relevant to permanent residence. If you intend to stay, Route A compounds.
September is the main intake. The binding constraints are the in-person visa appointment and 60 to 90 days of processing — plus, on Route A, an entire preparatory year.

If you intend to study in Czech, this is where your timeline actually begins. The preparatory course has its own application and its own visa.
Shortlist and apply
Public universities, technical universities and medical faculties all take international students. Check whether your programme has an entrance examination — many do.
Start sworn Czech translations
Documents need official translation into Czech by a sworn translator. Begin alongside your applications, not after the offer.
Accept, get the MoEST NOC, arrange funds evidence
The funds requirement is tied to a subsistence figure and the length of your stay — confirm the current amount with the mission before assembling anything.
Book the in-person visa appointment
Czechia may have no embassy in Nepal, so this is likely at a mission covering Nepal. The application must be made in person, so this involves travel.
Visa processing
Sixty to ninety days is normal. This is the least compressible part of the whole sequence, so everything above has to be finished before it starts.
Register, finalise the permit, sort insurance
Then term begins. Travel medical insurance covering Schengen is required before the visa is issued, and is replaced by Czech cover once you are enrolled.
The two routes have genuinely different entry requirements, which is worth setting out side by side.
For the free Czech-medium route: a level of Czech sufficient to study a degree in it — in practice a year of preparatory language study first, which is itself paid
For English-taught programmes: IELTS or TOEFL at the level the programme sets, with some institutions accepting a medium-of-instruction letter
Undergraduate entry from Nepal: Nepal's +2, assessed per programme, with recognition of the qualification checked at admission
One thing to check per programme: many Czech programmes set their own entrance examination, particularly in medicine and at the most competitive faculties
Entrance examinations are more common in Czechia than in most of this tier, particularly for medicine and for competitive faculties at Charles and Masaryk. They are set by the university, they are often sat in person or online on a fixed date, and they are easy to discover too late.
Ask each programme directly whether it examines, when, and whether the examination can be taken from Nepal.
Czechia's public universities are strong and old, and the categories are clear.
Charles University, Prague
Founded 1348 and the country's leading institution. Medicine, sciences, humanities and law, with faculties in several cities and long-established English-taught medicine.
Czech Technical University, Prague
A major engineering and computing institution with substantial English-taught provision.
Masaryk University, Brno
The second city's large general university — medicine, informatics, sciences and social sciences.
Regional universities
Palacký in Olomouc, and technical universities in Brno and Ostrava. Strong, much cheaper to live near, and less crowded.
The eligibility check is that the institution is a recognised Czech higher education institution, which the public universities all are. For medicine, add the Nepal Medical Council recognition check on top.
One factor worth weighting: Prague costs substantially more to live in than Brno or Olomouc, and on the tuition-free Czech route, living costs are your entire budget. Where you study therefore decides what the degree costs you.

Criminal-record certificate
From Nepal Police, translated into Czech by a sworn translator. Required.
Proof of funds
A bank statement in your own or a sponsor's name, or confirmation of a scholarship.
Travel medical insurance
Covering the Schengen area, and required before the visa is issued.
Accommodation proof
Confirmation of where you will live.
Passport and photographs
To specification, with biometrics taken at the in-person appointment.
Tuition receipt
Where the programme is paid — not applicable on the Czech-medium route.
The item to start earliest is sworn Czech translation. It is a specific legal category of translation, it applies to your academic documents and your police clearance, and it is the longest Nepal-side task for this destination.
Two Nepal-side items dominate. The criminal-record certificate and its sworn Czech translation, and the funds evidence — which is complicated by the fact that the required amount is quoted differently by different sources.
Confirm the application channel early. Czechia may have no embassy in Nepal, and the long-term visa must be applied for in person — which means travel to a mission covering Nepal, and that is a cost and a scheduling constraint to plan around rather than discover.
