Public & Allied Health Sciences
A broad family of health careers — lab, radiography, physiotherapy, optometry, public health and more — each regulated back home by one council.
091 Health (broad — spans several allied programmes)

Health-stream students must obtain a Medical Education Commission (MEC) pre-approval / eligibility letter before MoEST will issue the No Objection Certificate (NOC).
The MEC eligibility route for health courses generally requires sitting the Common Entrance Examination (CEE).
Without the MEC letter MoEST will not process the NOC, and without an NOC Nepali banks cannot legally remit tuition and the student visa is incomplete.
Allied-health professionals must pass the NHPC name-registration (licensing) examination and register to work in health institutions in Nepal.
The NHPC registers health professionals other than doctors, nurses, pharmacists and Ayurveda — e.g. lab technology, radiography, physiotherapy, optometry and public health.
Nepali citizens who studied abroad must submit an equivalence certificate and a Medical Education Commission study-consent/eligibility letter to obtain an NHPC registration number.
Registration levels examined: Certificate, Bachelor, and Master levels
Nepal Health Professional Council (NHPC) ↗
- Certificate / PCL (e.g. lab, radiography assistant levels)
- Bachelor (e.g. BMLT, B.Optom, BPT physiotherapy, BPH public health)
- Master (e.g. MPH, MSc allied health)
Clinical allied professions (e.g. physiotherapy, radiography) require registration with the destination country's professional regulator to practise — the degree alone is not enough.
Public health roles are typically less tied to a clinical licence than hands-on allied professions, widening where graduates can work.
United Kingdom
Strong for public health (MPH) and recognised allied-health regulators; clinical roles require HCPC-type registration.
Australia
Demand across allied health and public health; clinical professions are registration-gated, public health less so.
USA
Deep public-health (MPH) ecosystem; clinical allied licensure is state-by-state and varies.
What does 'public and allied health' cover?
The health professions Nepal regulates through the NHPC — medical lab technology, radiography, physiotherapy, optometry, public health and others — everything in health except doctors, nurses, pharmacists and Ayurveda.
Can I practise an allied-health profession in Nepal after studying abroad?
Yes, after registering with the NHPC. Foreign-educated applicants must submit an equivalence certificate and a Medical Education Commission study-consent letter to get a registration number, then pass the relevant NHPC licensing exam.
Do I need approval before going abroad for an allied-health course?
Yes — these are regulated health streams, so the Medical Education Commission eligibility step is required before MoEST issues your NOC, without which you can't remit tuition or complete your visa.
