your documents

Sweden decides residence permits centrally and handles Nepal through its mission in New Delhi. The file is online; the in-person step in Kathmandu is short and administrative.

01what they ask for

The set below is what a Nepali applicant to Sweden is normally asked for. Your institution or your circumstances can add to it — treat this as the floor, and the official checklist as the ceiling.

Letter of admission

From a Swedish institution, for a full-time programme.

Passport

Valid for the whole permit period, with copies of all stamped pages.

Proof of tuition payment

The first instalment, where your programme charges fees.

Proof of funds

Living costs for each month of study, at the amount Swedish immigration sets.

Comprehensive health insurance

For courses shorter than a year.

Academic documents

As required by the institution.

English test result

To the institution's standard.

Online residence permit application

Submitted to the Swedish Migration Agency.

02where it goes

The application is made online to the Swedish Migration Agency. Where an in-person step is needed, applicants in Nepal use the visa application centre in Kathmandu, and the file is handled by the Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi, which covers Nepal.

03getting the money right
1

Calculate the funds per month, not in total

Sweden specifies an amount per month for a set number of months per year. Work it out exactly rather than showing a round sum.

2

Pay the first tuition instalment first

For fee-paying programmes the payment evidence is part of a complete application, not something to follow up with.

3

Submit online and completely

Processing runs from a complete file. Missing evidence restarts the clock rather than pausing it.

4

Allow for the Delhi leg

Nepal is covered from New Delhi, so add courier and handling time to any published processing estimate.

04honest notes
read this before you plan a timeline

Swedish processing is document-driven and unforgiving of incompleteness, but it is also transparent — the agency publishes what it needs and what it is currently taking. Read both before you submit, not after.

Where this page shows a blank rather than a number, it is because we could not verify it against a source we would stand behind. A shown gap is more useful than a confident guess.

05the Nepal side

Most of your file is issued in Nepal and is identical whichever destination you choose. Each of these has its own guide with the office address, the fee and the steps.

Nepal step — the MoEST NOC comes after your offer and before you remit any tuition

The NOC is a Nepal-side requirement, not Sweden's — but without it a Nepali bank will not send your tuition, so it blocks everything downstream regardless of where you are going.
