how to apply from Nepal

Sweden runs one national portal with fixed dates and a hard cap of four programmes. That makes it simple to navigate and unforgiving if you miss a deadline.

01the timeline

The autumn round has published, fixed dates — no rolling admissions to fall back on. Work backwards from 15 January.

Apply and pay the fee

Up to four programmes in priority order, and the SEK 900 application fee.

~early February

Transcripts, English test and passport uploaded. Missing this loses the application, not just the document.

A hard limit: you may apply to up to 4 programmes, ranked in priority order, in one round

02the priority order matters

Four choices, ranked — and the ranking is not decorative.

Sweden allocates by your stated priority: if you are admitted to your first choice, your lower choices lapse. So the order should reflect what you actually want, not what you think you are most likely to get. Putting a 'safe' programme first can win you a place you did not want and lose you one you did.

With only four slots, spread them across a realistic range — one ambitious, two well-matched, one safer — rather than four variations of the same competitiveness.

03final admission

A Swedish term with a specific meaning, and the point at which your money is committed.

you pay before you have a permit

You become 'finally admitted' only once you pay the first tuition instalment and your university confirms it to Migrationsverket. You cannot apply for the residence permit before that.

Migrationsverket, corroborated · checked 2026-06 · verified

So the sequence is: accept → pay → become finally admitted → then apply for the permit. Your tuition instalment is committed before Migrationsverket has assessed you, which is the opposite of New Zealand's Approval in Principle. Check your university's refund policy for permit refusal before you transfer.

04the scholarship timeline

If you intend to apply for SISGP, it changes your calendar — and it is worth building the whole plan around.

SISGP: fully funded, covering tuition and living costs, with Nepal an eligible country and a separate application window after you apply to programmes

Swedish Institute (official) · checked 2026-06 · verified · ⚠ volatile — verify the current cycle and dates

You must apply to your programmes first through Universityadmissions, then apply for the scholarship separately in its own window. Holding it removes the tuition burden entirely and can exempt you from demonstrating maintenance funds — which for a Nepali applicant also removes the microfinance problem.

05entry & english

A single national academic threshold: does not exist

set per programme · checked 2026-06 · partial — no national threshold — verify on each programme page

English: set per programme and published clearly, commonly IELTS or TOEFL

universityadmissions / university pages · checked 2026-06 · partial

Swedish universities publish entry requirements clearly and apply them without much discretion. Meet the stated bar — there is little scope for a strong statement to compensate for a shortfall.

06the documents

Academic transcripts

NEB/+2 and bachelor's records, with certified translations.

English test results

To the level your programme sets.

Passport

Valid for your intended stay.

Motivation letter and CV

Where the programme asks, and required for SISGP.

Everything goes up by the early-February document deadline. Sweden treats that date as final — an application without complete documents by then is simply not assessed.

07from Nepal
Nepal step — get the MoEST NOC before paying your first tuition instalment

Because final admission requires that payment, and the permit requires final admission, the NOC sits on the critical path between March results and your permit application. Start it as soon as you accept your place.
