Practising as an advocate in Nepal requires a recognised law degree, passing the Nepal Bar Council licensing exam, and registration as an advocate.
The Nepal Bar Council Act, 2050 restricts advocate enrolment to Nepali citizens.
A foreign law degree must be evaluated by the Nepal Bar Council for equivalence before bar admission can be considered.
The bar exam tests Nepali constitutional, civil and criminal law, so a foreign law degree alone is not a direct route to practising in Nepal.

LLM and international-law options; admission to practise requires meeting local requirements separately.
USA
LLM is the common route for foreign lawyers; practising via a state bar is demanding and state-specific.
Can I practise law in Nepal after studying law abroad?
Generally not directly. Advocate practice in Nepal needs a recognised degree, the Nepal Bar Council exam, registration and Nepali citizenship — and a foreign degree (which teaches another country's law) must first be evaluated for equivalence. The bar exam tests Nepali law.
Is studying law abroad worth it for a Nepali student?
It can be — for international or comparative law, an LLM, academia, policy, the development sector or corporate advisory. It's not a shortcut to becoming a practising advocate in Nepal or abroad; those are separate, jurisdiction-specific roads.
Can I use a Nepali law licence abroad?
No — each country admits lawyers through its own bar or admission process. A Nepali licence on its own doesn't let you practise elsewhere.
